Influenza B viruses: underestimated and overlooked
نویسندگان
چکیده
Influenza B viruses circulate globally every year causing respiratory disease with significant clinical and socio-economic impacts. IBV are considered exclusive human pathogens no established animal reservoirs, which suggests concerted effort it may be possible to eradicate this virus from circulation. However, requires a deeper understanding of virology immunology the design vaccines that induce universal immunity antigenic variants IBV.

with antibiotics demonstrates that a single dose or 3 days of treatment at most is sufficient for most patients. As to the choice of antibiotic, evidence demonstrates equivalency, if not superiority, of a fluoroquinolone in the treatment of individuals with TD, compared with every other class of antibiotic [3–5]. Data also support the use of azithromycin in individuals for whom fluoroquinolones...
متن کاملReverse Genetics of Influenza B Viruses.
Annual influenza epidemics are caused not only by influenza A viruses but also by influenza B viruses. Initially established for the generation of recombinant influenza A viruses, plasmid-based reverse genetics techniques have allowed researchers the generation of wild type and mutant viruses from full-length cDNA copies of the influenza viral genome. These reverse genetics approaches have allo...
متن کاملEvaluation of Alere i Influenza A&B for rapid detection of influenza viruses A and B.
Rapid and accurate diagnosis of influenza is important for infection control, as well as for patient management. Alere i Influenza A&B is an isothermal nucleic acid amplification-based integrated system for detection and differentiation of influenza virus A and influenza virus B. The performance of the Alere i Influenza A&B was screened using frozen nasopharyngeal-swab specimens collected in vi...
متن کاملIsolation of influenza A/H3 and B viruses from an influenza patient: confirmation of co-infection by two influenza viruses.
Influenza A/H3 and B viruses co-circulated in the 2004 2005 epidemic season in Japan, and we confirmed a case of co-infection by both viruses. The two influenza viruses were isolated from a single patient by the plaque purification technique, and co-infection was confirmed. The patient was a 4-year-old girl whose throat swab specimens were positive for both influenza A and B viruses by a quick ...
متن کاملEpitope-focused vaccine design against influenza A and B viruses.
The threat of influenza A and B variants via antigenic drift and emerging novel influenza A and B strains in the human population via antigenic shift has spurred research efforts to improve upon current seasonal influenza vaccines. In recent years, a wave of novel technological breakthroughs has lead to the identification of many broadly anti-influenza hemagglutinin (HA) monoclonal antibodies (...
